15th European Conference on X-Ray Spectrometry, Bologna, Italy

From 15 – 20 June, Southern Innovation attended the 15th European Conference on X-Ray Spectrometry in Bologna, Italy.

Technical Director Paul Scoullar and XIA President Peter Grudberg presented world-leading performance results achieved by SITORO® Accelerated Analysis, with particular focus on the application of XIA’s FalconX processor to the high flux X-ray Fluorescence Microprobe beamline at the Australian Synchrotron. The FalconX has recently demonstrated output rates of 2.5 million counts per second with a resolution of 180 eV (FWHM), enabling extremely fast and accurate materials analysis.

Researchers at the Australian Synchrotron led by Dr David Paterson and Dr Martin de Jonge used X-ray fluorescence microprobe results, which relied on SITORO Accelerated Analysis, to create a 3D reconstruction of the distribution of trace elements in an ant mandible. Ants are significant agents of ecosystem processes, and understanding their role in accumulation and movement of elemental metal can aid in development of innovative mineral prospecting methods.

EXRS is a popular international meeting for scientists working in X-ray spectrometry or using one of its several techniques. It represents an exciting discussion forum for basic research and applications of X-ray spectrometry in a rich variety of fields like materials science, chemistry, radiation physics, medicine, biology, environment, cultural heritage, technology and industry.
